CBSE Class 11 Geography Chapter 1 India: Location Notes

India is located in the south-central part of Asia. The mainland of India extends from Kashmir in the North to Kanyakumari in the South and Arunachal Pradesh in the East to Gujarat in the West. India extends from 8° North to 37° North latitudes. The Tropic of Cancer divides India into almost two equal halves.

The latitudinal location of India is responsible for the large variations in its climate, soil types, natural vegetation and landforms. India lies between the longitudes 68° East and 97° East. There is a variation of nearly 30 degrees between 68 degrees 7 minutes East and 97 degrees 25 minutes East longitudes.
